Paris Olympics 2024: India Women's Archery Team Secures Direct Qualification To The Quarterfinal Round

A strong 11th-place finish from Ankita Bhakat combined with some decent support from young Bhajan Kaur and veteran Deepika Kumari helps India secure direct qualification to the Quarterfinal round in the Women's Archery Team event in the Paris Olympics 2024. The Indian team finished 4th in the ranking round in women's archery to secure direct qualification to the quarterfinal round. Ankita Bhakat finished 11th, Bhajan Kaur and Deepika Kumari finished 22nd and 23rd respectively. Team India scored 1983 points with 21 bullseyes and 83 10's in the qualification round.

The Indian women's archers put the Indian fans through a roller-coaster ride in the Women's Ranking Round but managed to finish with decent scores, although they have a lot to work on especially, Ankita Bhakat. Ankita started strong with a 54, and she was always ahead of Bhajan Kaur and Deepika Kumari throughout the qualification event. While she broke into the Top 10 in the penultimate end, she was unable to hold on to that position, with an 8 off her last arrow leading her to finish 11th. Interestingly, the jinx of the last arrow haunted the other Indian women's archers as well, and that's something they will look to improve going forward in the Paris Olympics 2024.

On the flip side, Indian veteran archer Deepika Kumari overcame a poor start, putting in a much-improved showing in the 2nd Half to finish 23rd, and had it not been for the 5 she fired in End 9, she could've been in the Top 20. While a sub-par final End cost her a place in the Top 20, young Bhajan Kaur impressed in the Ranking Round, battling slow starts and getting better with every passing End. On the brighter side, India women's archery team finished with a solid result at the Ranking Round, and they have plenty of positives and a few negatives to take away from this qualification event ahead of the 1/32 Elimination Round set to be held on Sunday, July 28.

The final End saw Mexico edge past India by 3 points as Ankita Bhakat finished with 666 points. Bhajan Kaur had 659 points while Deepika Kumari rounded off the day with 658. Team India scored 1983 points with 21 bullseyes and 83 10's in the qualification round. Korea finished top of the standings with 2046 points with China and Mexico ending in the 2nd and 3rd spots with 1996 and 1986 points respectively.
