Manu Bhaker and Sarabjot Singh secured India's second medal at the Paris Olympics 2024, clinching bronze in the 10m mixed team air pistol event on Tuesday, July 30. The duo, who advanced to the bronze medal match on Monday, triumphed over South Korea with a score of 16-10, boosting India's medal tally in shooting at the 2024 Summer Olympic Games. Manu Bhaker has scripted history as the first Indian post-Independence era to win two medals at the same Olympics. The last one for India was Norman Pritchard in 1900 which was pre-independence. Her father anticipated another medal after her bronze medal in the 10m air pistol final a couple of days ago on Sunday.

Manu Bhaker and Sarabjot Singh script history as India wins their second Bronze medal

Indian Olympic history has been scripted right in front of our eyes as Manu Bhaker and Sarabjot Singh become the first Indian pair to win a medal in the 10m Air Pistol Mixed Team Event as they destroy the Korean pair in the Bronze Medal Match. Talking about the Paris Olympics 2024 Bronze medal match, the Indian pair started off poorly. Sarabjot Singh started with a weak 8.6 and that helped Korea take the initial points. But then, Sarabjot got back on track and with an in-form Manu Bhaker firing all cylinders, the pair clinched the next 4 sets getting into a big lead. However, a 10.8 from Ye Jin Oh in the next series was pivotal in Korea taking the next set but then India bounced back quickly with Manu Bhaker continuing her stellar run getting a 10.6.

Unfortunately, Manu Bhaker slipped up for the first time in the contest as she went out of the 10-mark in the eighth series shooting her lowest 8.3 which handed Korea a huge advantage with another set. Just when things got worse, the Indian coach called a timeout. It did wonders for the duo as Manu Bhaker got back on track into the 10s and Sarabjot kept scoring in the 10s as well. On the flip side, Wonho Lee from Korea was struggling to get into the 10s and even though Ye Jin Oh scored a near-perfect 10.8, the Indian pair made a strong comeback, winning the next two sets.

In the end, India was just one set away from clinching the bronze medal as the score stood at 14-6. Despite the fact that consecutive 10.8s from Ye Jin Oh helped Korea reduce the deficit with the Indians missing the 10-mark on the first of them, poor shots from both the Koreans meant that even one decent shot from the Indian pair would grab the Bronze and Sarabjot Singh responded in style with a 10.2. Manu Bhaker scored a poor last shot with 9.4, but it was more than enough for the Indian pair to win the Bronze medal in the 2024 Summer Olympic Games. In the last shot, India scored 19.6 while the Koreans choked, shooting only a 9.5 and a 9.0, totalling 18.5.
