As many as 79 days are left for the start of the much-awaited 2024 Paris Olympics as the star-studded event is scheduled to be held from 26 July to 11 August, 2024. After winning a total of 7 medals in the 2021 Tokyo Olympics that comprised of 1 Gold, 2 Silver and 4 Bronze Medals, the Indian contingent will definitely be eyeing to improve their medals tally to set up new world records. The upcoming Olympics event will surely be one of the biggest sporting tournaments held in the last few years. In this blog piece, we take a look at the India's medal prospects in the upcoming 2024 summer olympics scheduled to take place in Paris later this year.
India's medal prospects in the 2024 Summer Olympics
1. Neeraj Chopra
India's javelin specialist, Neeraj Chopra, definitely brought a lot of joy amongst the millions of Indian fans especially during the last two years having won a number of medals. It was during the 2021 Tokyo Olympics when he rose to fame having won India's first-ever gold medal in the track and field department. However, it will be a tough challenge for Neeraj as he will be defending his title at the Paris Olympics 2024 and will be entering the global competition as one of the greatest olympic gold medalist in India, which is a huge stature at this moment. He will be facing some of the successful athletes in the javelin world including the likes of two-time World Champion Anderson Peters, 2021 Tokyo Olympics silver medalist Jakub Vadlejch and European champion Julian Weber. Another Indian athlete, Kishore Kumar Jena, will also be competing as the javelin thrower.
2. Aditi Ashok
India's golfer Aditi Ashok finished T66 during the recently concluded JM Eagle LA Championship taken place in California. She is currently placed at the 26th position in the Olympic Golf Rankings. However, Aditi is yet to confirm his spot in the 2024 Paris Olympics, but still she is very much certain to book a place in the star-studded event. Incidentally, she missed out on winning a medal in the last summer olympics and thus, Aditi Ashok will be very motivated to make an impressive comeback in the upcoming 2024 Olympics starting from 26 July, 2024. While having made some adjustments in her game and improvements in accuracy, Aditi will be eyeing to make the nation proud at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
3. Satwiksairaj Rankireddy - Chirag Shetty
The duo of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty had a fine performance in the Thomas Cup, however, they failed to defend their title. Incidentally, Satwik is making a comeback from an injury lay-off and thus, he did not played the last tournament with complete fitness. They registered quite easy victory during the first two rounds but then ended up suffering a comprehensive loss at the hands of the Indonesian pair of Bagas Maulana and Muhammad Shohibul. The Indian badminton duo conceded a loss in the quarter-finals against the World Chmpion pair of Liang Wei Keng and Wang Chang. It will be really important for Satwik to quickly recover from injury and the duo will be aiming to make a sensational comeback in the forthcoming Thailand Open.
4. PV Sindhu
Interestingly, India's star badminton player PV Sindhu has been away from the game for as many as 10 days and she will be returning to action in the upcoming Thailand Open. Moreover, in order to pace her recovery before th all-important 2024 Olympics event, Sindhu has opted out of the Uber Cup. If she is successful to win a medal in the 2024 Summer Olympics, PV Sindhu will become India's most successful Olympian of all-time and a top headline in the Olympics news. She has battled a lot of injury issues during the recent few months, but she is hopeful to bring up her best game forward in the upcoming games.
5. India Men's Hockey team
The Indian Men's hockey team are currently involved in an intense training session at the SAI Centre in Bengaluru under the guidance of head coach Craig Fulton. They will be seen in action later this month during the Pro League 2024. India Hockey team will be crossing swords against some quality oppositions like Argentina, Belgium, Germany and Great Britain. Therefore, there will be loads of expectations from them in the 2024 Olympics.
6. Mirabai Chanu
In the weightlifting category, Mirabai Chanu will be uplifting India's hopes as she eyes a second consecutive Olympic medal later this year. She ended up at the 11th position in the IWF World Cup to seal a slot in the Paris 2024 Olympics. However, the next 80 days will be a lot crucial for Mirabai, as she aims to completely recover from an injury issue and be at her best during the main event.
