While missing out on the chance to claim another title, India's Rohan Bopanna and Australia's Matthew Ebden concluded their illustrious partnership on a high note. The Indo-Australian pair beat Germany's Kevin Krawietz and Tim Puetz to open their victory account at the ATP Finals in Turin. However, the victory came in the last group stage contest for the duo. Bopanna-Ebden opened their campaign in Turin with a straight-sets defeat against the Italian duo of Simone Bolelli and Andrea Vavassori. Hopes of Bopanna and Ebden getting back on track were dashed further as the top-seeded Marcelo Arevalo and Mate Pavic beat them 7-5, 6-3 on Wednesday, earlier this weak.

Rohan Bopanna and Matthew Ebden script a victorius conclusion of their partnership

Rohan Bopanna and Mathew Ebden, who joined forces in January 2023, concluded their partnership with a victory at the ATP Finals on Friday. Although their chances of reaching the semi-finals had already been dashed following two earlier defeats, Bopanna and Ebden showcased a determined performance to wrap up the campaign on a positive note. They shook off the disappointment of missing two match points in the second-set tie-break to secure a one-hour, 42-minute win against the German pair of Kevin Krawietz and Tim Puetz. Bopanna and Ebden fired 14 aces en route to their final victory together. Despite the loss, Krawietz and Puetz advanced to the semi-finals on their ATP Finals debut, finishing the Bob Bryan group play with a 2-1 record.

During their time as a team, Rohan Bopanna and Matthew Ebden clinched the 2024 Australian Open men’s doubles crown. Moreover, the duo lifted the ATP 1000 Masters titles at Indian Wells in 2023 and the Miami Open in 2024. They also captured the Qatar Open in 2023 and reached the US Open final the same year. It was during his partnership with Ebden that Rohan Bopanna, at 44, became the oldest player to claim the World No.1 rank in the ATP Standings earlier this year.

“I have to thank him (Bopanna) for his amazing effort and commitment and dedication at 44 years old. It's been a great effort. I wish him all the best for the future,” Ebden said following his victory with Bopanna in Turin.

Rohan Bopanna retired from his international career this year and the Indian ace will not feature in marquee events and the Davis Cup for India. However, the 44-year-old, will reunite with the Croatian veteran Ivan Dodig, 39, for the 2025 season. Ivan Dodig and Bopanna recently came together for the Asian swing of the ATP Tour as Ebden sought a break.
