Rohan Bopanna recently pulled the curtain on his illustrious partnership Matthew Ebden. The India-Australian pair came together in 2023 and commenced a collaboration that witnessed both the seasoned player reaching new highs in their respective careers. After two successful seasons on the ATP Tour, the duo decided to part ways following the Nitto ATP Finals in Turin. Now, with the doubles partner having seen the last of it, Bopanna came up with a clarification over his next partner. Many reports emerged following Bopanna's group stage exit from the ATP Finals, claiming that the Indian ace will partner with Ivan Dodig for the further seasons. However, the 44-year-old has dashed any such possibility and has urged people to verify the developments before reporting it for all to see.
Rohan Bopanna denies claims about pairing with Ivan Dodig for the next ATP season
Bopanna recently ended his two-year collaboration with Australia’s Matthew Ebden following their participation in the ATP Finals 2024 in Turin, Italy. The pair finished at the bottom of the Bob Bryan Group, falling short of the semifinals. Post the end of their partnership, it was reported that Bopanna will next pair with the Croatian player, Ivan Dodig. The duo recently played together at the Asian swing while Ebden sought rest from the tour. However, their past collaborations are no indications of the Indian and Croatian player to join hands. Clarifying about the same, Bopanna refuted the claims with a tweet.
“I kindly request you to please verify and refrain from sharing false information with a global audience, particularly regarding Ivan Dodig being my partner. I was never set to play with Ivan next year. Thank you," Bopanna wrote on the social media platform.
The pair of Bopanna and Ebden achieved significant milestones together. Their partnership included titles at the Qatar Open and Indian Wells, with their crowning moment being the Australian Open men’s doubles title in January of this season. In the final, they defeated Italy’s Simone Bolelli and Andrea Vavassori at the iconic Rod Laver Arena. This remarkable run also saw Bopanna breaking records, becoming the oldest World No.1 at 43 during the Australian Open and the oldest Grand Slam champion at the same tournament. They later added the Miami Open to their list of achievements earlier this year.
Their campaign in the ATP Finals, however, was less successful. After consecutive losses, they managed a win against Germany’s Kevin Krawietz and Tim Putz in their final group-stage match. With his partnership with Ebden now concluded, all eyes are on Bopanna as fans eagerly await news of his next doubles partner.
