So, the Aussies wanted to kill Novak Djokovic. Before you fall off your chair, or think this is some kind of April Fool joke, the winner of 24 Grand Slam himself said this in Melbourne on Thursday night through an interview. The whole day, Novak had spent at the Australian Open, a Grand Slam where he is again fancying his chances this time in the company of Andy Murray as coach/mentor.
Recalling the dark days of the Australian Open in 2021, when Novak landed in Melbourne, and was then sent into a detention camp, it was all murky. The mistake was not his, but that of state government officials who allowed him to land and cross the immigration check point. They knew he had not taken the Covid jabs. At that time, four years ago, the Aussies were flummoxed. Vaccines were mandated but not mandatory for the locals. Those who still think a vaccine is like injecting something inside the body and can be avoided, it is a personal choice. Even Serena Williams has not taken the Covid vaccine jabs.
Sadly, in Novak’s case, he was treated shabbily in 2021. He was no convict, he was no menace, he was no drug peddler. All he had said was a ‘no’ to the vaccine. The battle played out in the court, not tennis, but a court of law. It was high profile. When Novak was deported and flew out of the Tullamarine airport in Melbourne, he was alone, lonely, almost in tears. The images which appeared in social media of a legend being treated so shockingly was sad.
Now, the same Novak has spoken sensational stuff. It is not to gather attention but how he felt sick when he returned home in Europe. “I had a paper with a 100 items from toothbrush, toothpaste, water, food, whatever. And I had to tick the certain boxes and each of these boxes contained a certain amount of points, and I had 60 points in total of what I was allowed to receive,” said Novak. Later, Novak was told he could not carry most stuff into the hotel. If all this is jargon to the reader, Novak explained further where he has spoken of food in the detention hotel being ‘poisoned.’
“When I got home (Serbia) , I had some health issues. And I realised in that hotel in Melbourne I was fed with some food that poisoned me. I never told this to anybody in Serbia when this was discovered publicly. But there was a really high level of metal, high in lead and mercury,” said Novak. This was crazy, why would the Aussies want to poison Novak, someone who has entertained tennis lovers in Melbourne so often. He has a cult following Down Under, so whoever wanted to ‘kill’ him must have been crazy. Again, this could not have been done without the involvement of officials. In Australia, where you cannot even cross immigration with OTC (over the counter) pain killers in your bag. At hotels and restaurants, there is supposed to be high standards in hygiene. So, why feed Novak food which was not clean?
It is well known, when the Novak case was argued at the highest level in a court in Melbourne, some felt he was a wrong example. People would refuse to take the Covid jabs. Lockdown in Australia was harsh, very strict. Even inter-state travel was not allowed. So, Melbourne, in Victoria state, was a in total isolation. All this was not fine, since a country with low population still faced a human crisis due to the Covid. The only reason Novak was fed food which was contaminated was to cause him health trauma. Or, was it a ploy to ensure he would never return to Australia and play tennis. Don’t forget, Novak has medical records on reports suggesting ‘toxicity.’
The same man will now entertain the fans in Melbourne. An interesting recall, fans have hated Novak in Melbourne in the past and even attempted to drag his father Srdjan into controversies when the Russia versus Ukraine war broke out. Novak is a ‘Peacenik’, someone who has seen war and strife and hunger in his younger days. And he has spoken about it as well. So, for a champion to be brave and return to Australian even now and speak, this is bravado. He does not care about what the reactions will be.
For the record, Nick Kyrgios has strongly come out in support of Novak Djokovic. “We treated him like s..t,” said Kyrgios. Also to rewind, Novak was in detention at Park Hotel in Melbourne, indeed a dump hotel. Novak has spoken out in the GQ magazine interview every detail. The state department is in denial in Australia. That is expected. Still want to travel to Melbourne?
