Carlos Alcaraz suffered a heart-breaking exit at the Shanghai Masters 100 after losing to Tomas Machac 6-4, 7-5 in the quarter-finals. For the unserved, this was his first defeat against Machac. In their maiden encounter in the Davis Cup in September, Carlos Alcaraz got the better of him. There is no denying that Alcaraz has had a huge success this year. He won four titles, which included two Grand Slams and an Olympic silver medal.

He had a chance to face the world number one Jannik Sinner in the final of the Shanghai Masters and tussle for the top ranking. But Tomas had other ideas as he came up victorious in the clash.

As far as the upcoming schedule of the 21-year-old is concerned, Alcaraz recently confirmed his participation in four tournaments - exhibition match in Saudi Arabia, the Masters 1000 in Paris in October, the ATP finals, and the Davis Cup in November which is also the farewell tournament of none other than Rafael Nadal.

"I’m going to play the exhibition in Saudi Arabia " - Carlos Alcaraz

Alcaraz has now lost the chance to finish the year as world no.1 Tennis player, he is now focused on what lies ahead and wishes to compete at his best in the upcoming tournaments.

“Well, right now I’m going to play the exhibition in Saudi Arabia. I’m going to go there, I’m going to try to play good tennis, and forget I lost. Yeah, then the Masters 1000 in Paris, the ATP Finals, and the Davis Cup, that’s my plan right now. I have to be really, really focused on the next tournaments.

“I really want to go farther and get a good result to get as much points as I can, you know, to be closer to Jannik, but, yeah, my plan is those tournaments,” Alcaraz said (via Tennis Gazette).

Interestingly, Alcaraz dominates Sinner in the head-to-head clashes 6-4 but the latter’s ATP points are 3020 more than him. As far as 2024 is concerned, Carlos has won a staggering 51 matches in singles and lost only 10. He has won the French Open, Wimbledon, Indian Wells, and China Open so far and would be keen on finishing the year on a high with success in upcoming tournaments.
